Why Wibawa Law

The Character of the Practice

Considered Advice

Every matter receives thorough preparation before counsel is given. Opinions are expressed with appropriate qualifications, not as marketing assertions.

Strict Confidentiality

Client affairs are held in confidence as a professional obligation. Engagements involving family principals are conducted with particular discretion.

Fixed-Fee Clarity

Transactional engagements are scoped and priced at the outset, on a fixed-fee or capped-time-cost basis. Clients know the cost before work begins.

Senior-Level Attention

Matters are handled by a qualified advocate and solicitor admitted to the Malaysian Bar, not delegated to junior staff.

Accessible Location

The chambers are situated on Persiaran Tropicana, Petaling Jaya — a convenient location for clients across Klang Valley.

Malaysian Law Expertise

The practice is grounded in Malaysian statute and case law, including familiarity with Islamic succession instruments such as hibah where they apply.

Begin an Engagement

A matter requires careful consideration. Let us discuss it.

If your business or family has a legal question that warrants senior advisory attention, the appropriate first step is a direct conversation at chambers or a brief telephone consultation to establish whether the matter falls within the firm's practice.

Common Questions

What Clients Ask

How does the firm handle its fees?

Fees for opinion and structural work are based on the standard scales indicated for each practice area. For transactional engagements, the scope and cost are agreed at the outset, either on a fixed-fee basis or with a capped time-cost arrangement. There are no open-ended hourly retainers that accumulate without prior agreement.

What should I bring to an initial conference?

For corporate matters: copies of the relevant corporate documents, any draft agreements already in circulation, and a brief written summary of the transaction as you understand it. For succession matters: existing wills or hibah deeds if any, a list of assets and their approximate values, and the names and relationships of intended beneficiaries. The more complete the information, the more productive the conference will be.

Does the firm take on new clients directly, or only by referral?

The firm accepts new instructions both directly and through referring professionals such as auditors, company secretaries, and financial planners. A brief conflict-check will be conducted before any engagement is confirmed. Enquiries through the contact form or by telephone are welcomed.

How long does a typical corporate transaction engagement take?

Duration varies considerably with the complexity of the transaction and the preparedness of both parties' documentation. A straightforward shareholder agreement may be completed in two to three weeks. A private acquisition involving due diligence and conditions precedent typically requires six to twelve weeks. A realistic timeline is discussed at the scoping stage and confirmed in the engagement letter.

Is the firm's advice relevant to both Muslim and non-Muslim principals?

Yes. The firm advises Malaysian clients across religious backgrounds. For succession matters, the applicable framework differs: Muslim principals may wish to consider hibah and faraid distribution, while non-Muslim principals typically work within the Distribution Act 1958 and wills under civil law. The firm has working familiarity with both frameworks.

What is the Half-Day Advisory Conference suited to?

It is suited to situations where a client or their adviser has identified a specific legal question — concerning a proposed transaction, a governance matter, or a succession issue — that benefits from a structured conversation rather than a written opinion alone. The conference format allows the question to be examined from multiple angles, with a written note issued afterwards to record the discussion and any conclusions reached.
